Prof. Ishfaq Ahmad

The University of Texas at Arlington, USA

Brief: Ishfaq Ahmad has been a full professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) since 2002. Prior to that, he was an associate professor of computer science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). At HKUST, he also directed the university’s Multimedia Technology Research Center. At UTA, he led IRIS (Institute of Research in Security), an interdisciplinary research center of the university. He has extensively engaged with the industry in technology transfer, having collaborated with over 60 companies and spearheaded many interdisciplinary teams at UTA and across multiple universities. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science and M.S. in Computer Engineering from Syracuse University, New York, U.S.A., in 1992 and 1987, respectively; his B.S. in Electrical Engineering is from the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan, in 1985. He has authored 290-plus publications, including books and peer-reviewed research papers on supercomputing systems, parallel optimization algorithms, digital video compression, smart power grid, AI-driven assistive technologies, and sustainable computing. Dr. Ahmad has received over 40 international research awards and about $15 million in research funding. Google Scholar shows his research papers as highly cited, ranking him among the top ten researchers in several computer science and engineering sub-branches. Prof. Ahmad has given many PhD degrees, and his former students include senior-level professorial position holders in universities around the world, leaders in industry and U.S. government agencies, and Pakistani army officials. He has chaired over 20 international conferences and delivered over 150 talks, including several keynote speeches. While being a professor, he has held additional positions: a senior visiting scientist at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, China; a visiting lecturer at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, Houston, Texas; a frequent senior visiting scientist at the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome, New York. He is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal Sustainable Computing: Informatics and Systems and co-founder of the International Green and Sustainable Computing (IGSC) Conference and International Conferences on Data Intelligence and Security (ICDIS).  In addition, he has served as editor of IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, IEEE Distributed Systems Online, Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing, IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, and IEEE Transactions on Multimedia. Currently, he is Editor-in-Chief of Springer’s Discover Internet-of-Things, which he also founded. Prof. Ahmad is a Distinguished Life Fellow by India's Institute of Doctors, Engineers, & Scientists (IDES). He is a Fellow of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers)—the Fellow grade is the highest of the IEEE and is conferred for extraordinary achievements in electrical engineering and computer science.

He is the author of “The Perfect Human, Muhammad (PBUH), How the Last Prophet of God Changed the World,” the proceeds of which go to a non-profit charity trust.

Prof. Jing-Ming Guo

National Taiwan University

Brief: Prof. Guo received the Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Communication Engineering, National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan, in 2004. He is currently a full Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering, and Director of Advanced Intelligent Image and Vision Technology Research Center. He has been seconded as Chief Technology Officer to Service Systems Technology Center and Information and Communications Research Laboratories of Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) starting from 2022 and 2023, respectively. He was Vice Dean of the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Director of the Innovative Business Incubation Center, Office of Research and Development.

He was Visiting Scholar at the Digital Video and Multimedia Lab, Department of Electrical Engineering, Columbia University, USA from June to August, 2015, and the Signal Processing Lab, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of California, Santa Barbara, USA from July 2002 to June 2003 and June-November, 2014. His research interests include multimedia signal processing, biometrics, computer vision, and digital halftoning.

 Dr. Guo has been promoted as a Distinguished Professor in 2012 for his significant research contributions. He has received many awards, including Best Paper Awards (IEEE ICCE-TW 2020, IS3C 2020, NSSSE 2020, ICSSE 2011 and 2020, ICS 2014, and CVGIP 2005, 2006, 2013, 2016, and 2019), Outstanding Contribution Award from Taiwan Consumer Electronics Society in 2021, Outstanding Electrical Engineering Professor Award from Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering, Taiwan in 2016, Outstanding Research Contribution Award from Institute of System Engineering in 2017, Excellence Research Awards from his university for five times (2008, 2011, 2014, 2017, 2020, and 2022, this award is evaluated and issued every three years), Outstanding Industry-Academia Collaboration Awards from Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan, in 2013. Outstanding youth Electrical Engineer Award from Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering in 2011, Outstanding young Investigator Award from Taiwan Institute of System Engineering in 2011.

Dr. Guo is Chapter Chair of IEEE Signal Processing Society, Taipei Section, Board of Governor member of Asia Pacific Signal and Information Processing Association, and President of IET Taipei Local Network. He has been General Chair of many international conferences, e.g., IEEE ICCE 2025, APSIPA 2023, IEEE Life Science Workshop 2020, ISPACS 2019, IEEE ICCE-Berlin 2019, IWAIT 2018, and IEEE ICCE-TW 2015. He has been Technical Program Chair of many international conferences as well, e.g., IEEE ICIP 2023, IWAIT 2022, IEEE ICCE-TW 2014, IEEE ISCE 2013, and ISPACS 2012. He is/was Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technologies, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, IEEE Signal Processing Letters, Information Sciences, Signal Processing, and Journal of Information Science and Engineering. He is a Fellow of IEEE and IET.
